Authorities have identified James S. Khezri, 56, of Woodinville, as one of three people killed in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday evening in Snohomish County, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:17 p.m. on February 12, 2026, along U.S. Highway 2 near milepost 31, about two miles northeast of Gold Bar and west of Stevens Pass. Troopers responded to reports of a serious crash involving multiple vehicles.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford Fusion traveling westbound on U.S. 2 allegedly crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound Ford F-150. The force of the impact caused catastrophic damage to both vehicles. Shortly after the initial collision, a third vehicle—a Honda CR-V—struck the F-150 and ultimately came to rest in a ditch off the eastbound shoulder.
Authorities reported that both the Ford Fusion and the Ford F-150 caught fire following the crash. Emergency responders arrived on scene and worked to extinguish the flames and assess victims. The driver of the Fusion and two occupants of the F-150 were pronounced dead at the scene. James S. Khezri was identified as the driver of the F-150.
The driver of the Honda CR-V and his 19-year-old passenger sustained injuries and were transported to Providence Medical Center for treatment. Their conditions have not been publicly detailed.
WSP officials confirmed that the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Troopers are continuing to examine evidence from the scene and determine contributing factors, including whether impairment, speed, or other circumstances played a role in the incident.
Head-on collisions, particularly those involving vehicles crossing the centerline, are among the most severe types of roadway accidents. According to national traffic safety data, while such crashes account for a relatively small percentage of total accidents, they are responsible for a disproportionate number of traffic fatalities. Law enforcement officials consistently urge drivers to remain attentive, avoid distractions, and exercise caution on two-lane highways where opposing traffic is separated only by painted centerlines.
The tragic loss of James S. Khezri has left family members and the broader community grieving. As investigators continue their work, authorities have not released additional information regarding possible citations or charges.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has relevant information is encouraged to contact the Washington State Patrol.
