Authorities are investigating the death of a 21-year-old Black man who was found hanging from a tree at Fair Oaks Park in Marietta.
According to the Cobb County Police Department, a Ranger Unit responded to the park, located at 1465 W. Booth Road, just before 10:00 a.m. after a 911 caller reported discovering a body in a wooded area of the park.
Detectives from the department’s Major Crimes Unit arrived at the scene and began a preliminary investigation. Officials stated that investigators found no immediate signs of foul play or evidence suggesting that another person was involved in the man’s death.
As part of the investigation, authorities reviewed surveillance footage from the area and conducted witness interviews. According to police, the footage indicated that the man entered a wooded section of the park alone on February 14 at approximately 4:28 p.m. Investigators have indicated that, based on the evidence gathered so far, there is no indication of third-party involvement.
The death is currently being investigated as a suicide, pending final confirmation from the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office. Officials emphasized that the case remains open while they await autopsy results and complete standard investigative procedures.
Police have notified the man’s next of kin. However, his name has not yet been publicly released.
